A Taste of Overnight Camp: Ta’am Ramah Palmer

This week, our oldest campers packed their bags and headed to Ramah Palmer for one of the most exciting experiences of the summer: Ta’am B’Palmer, or “A Taste of Palmer.” During this opportunity, our campers got to spend the night at Ramah Palmer, our local sleepaway camp. For many of them, this was their first opportunity to experience overnight camp, and they were eager to see what all the excitement was about.

The visit was filled with opportunities to explore every corner of camp. Campers spent time swimming in the agam (lake), creating projects in omanut (art), and visiting the farm, where they got a chance to interact with the animals and enjoy a different side of camp life. They also tried outdoor cooking over an open fire, worked together during chugim and a camp-wide scavenger hunt, and ended the day with evening programming before settling into their bunks for the night.

One of the highlights of the trip was sharing meals and tefillah with campers spending the summer at Ramah Palmer. These moments gave our campers the opportunity to hear firsthand why so many choose the overnight camp experience and what keeps them coming back year after year. It was a wonderful chance to see the strong sense of community that defines Ramah Palmer while beginning to imagine themselves as part of it in the future.

After a night away, campers packed up their bags, enjoyed one last morning of activities, and climbed back onto the bus with plenty of stories to tell. As excited as they were to share their adventures with their families, many were already talking about coming back to Palmer again. Ta’am B’Palmer gave our campers a chance to picture themselves taking the next step in their Ramah journey, and they returned home with memories they’ll be talking about for a long time.
