An Overview of Staff Week at Ramah Boston!

Before campers arrive on Monday and our summer officially begins, there is an essential week that sets everything in motion. Shavua Hachanah (Staff Week) at Ramah Boston!

Over this past week, our staff have been meeting every day to ensure that they are fully prepared to give your child the best summer possible. Starting on Tuesday, our staff were taught what it means to be part of the Ramah community. This included hands-on-training, workshops, and team-building activities which have enabled our counselors and specialists to create an environment where every child feels safe, seen, and valued.

Some of our specific workshops included teaching counselors how to promote the “IALAC” mindset, or in other words, how to ensure each child feels like “[I am] lovable and capable.” Staff were also taught about safety procedures that will keep your child healthy throughout the day. Finally, our staff has gone through inclusion workshops so that every camper feels happy and welcomed.

A central focus of the week was camper care, and ensuring that staff are equipped to build strong relationships and support campers throughout the summer. Counselors and specialists considered and practiced possible real-life scenarios, which allowed them to learn how to respond with empathy, clear communication, and confidence.

Beyond the staff trainings, camp itself has also begun to take shape. Everyone has been working together to set up activity areas, organize materials, and to prepare chuggim. From the art room to the farm and pool, every space is ready to provide your camper with a fun and exciting environment!

Shavua Hachanah is also about building community among our staff. Our counselors and specialists have spent the week forming connections with each other and learned to collaborate in order to create the positive environment that defines Ramah.

Now that the end of the week has arrived, we are ready to welcome campers and bring the summer to life! See you Monday!
