Becoming Leaders: Reflections from MaKoR

At the Ramah Day Camp of Greater Boston, the MaKoR program offers young teenagers going into 8th or 9th grade the chance to explore what it is like to be a counselor by having them join different bunks as Counselors In Training (C.I.T.s). This past summer we, the C.I.T.s in MaKoR, have had many amazing opportunities to develop our leadership skills and experience new things. However, the MaKoR program does not just prepare the members for being counselors. At our daily meetings, we also learned important skills for being a leader outside of a camp context.

During these meetings, the MaKoR group has a chance to talk through their daily highlights and challenges with the Rosh MaKoR, head of MaKoR, Ianne Sherry. Over the course of the summer, some of our highlights included going to the pool, helping kids learn new skills, such as problem solving, and interacting with campers in both one-on-one and group settings.

Overall, the MaKoR program is a great opportunity for young teenagers and we have had an amazing time being a part of it this summer. We are so lucky to have gotten to learn from and work with the rest of the Ramah Day Camp staff. Thank you to everyone who helped make this summer possible for MaKoR!
