Ready, Set, Go: Yom Sport at Camp

This Thursday, the Garinim, Etzim, Nitzanim, Tamarim, Alonim, MaKoR, Sha’ar 18, and Sha’ar 19 edot came together to celebrate one of the most spirited and anticipated days of the summer—Yom Sport! The excitement began the day before, when on Wednesday afternoon, campers were divided into four color war teams: red, blue, green, and yellow. Campers went home buzzing with anticipation and came back Thursday morning dressed head-to-toe in their team colors, ready to give it their all.

The day kicked off with team-based tefillah, where campers sat with their color groups and had the opportunity to earn points right from the start. Teams were rewarded for “participating with ruach” and staying on the right page—setting a tone of enthusiasm and focus that carried through the whole day.

After tefillah, the games officially began! Campers competed in an exciting range of activities, including relay races, kickball, spelling bees, trivia, swim meets, chess matches, and even a spit (the card game) tournament. The entire camp was buzzing with energy, and the spirit of friendly competition was felt everywhere. Counselors were just as involved as the campers—playing, cheering, and helping to lead events throughout the day. Their enthusiasm played a huge role in making the day such a success.

At lunchtime, campers continued earning points for their teams by participating in a silent lunch challenge. It was incredible to see each team working together to stay completely quiet, which is no easy feat in a dining hall full of excited campers!

A huge thank you goes out to Ianne Sherry and Rabbi Silverman, who were instrumental in planning and running the activities during Yom Sport. Thanks to their thoughtful organization and leadership, the campers had a blast.

At the end of the day, after hours of spirited competition, the blue team came out on top, but truly, every team was a winner. The real highlight of the day was the incredible ruach, teamwork, and joy shared by everyone at camp. Yom Sport 2025 was a day to remember!
