Ta’am Ramah: A Taste of Overnight Camp

We had a blast at Ta’am Ramah, our overnight trip to Ramah Palmer! On Monday and Tuesday we enjoyed a ta’am (taste) of the Ramah overnight camp experience with a group of campers ranging in age from Garinim (rising 2nd graders) to Alonim (rising 6th graders).

When we arrived we first went to our tzrifim (bunks) to unpack. Next, we embarked on a scavenger hunt to learn about many of the important spaces we would be visiting over the course of our trip. We joined the Ramah New England campers for lunch, where we sat at tables together.

After lunch we visited Pinat Teva (the farm) where we learned about the

different animals, including the chickens, turkeys, rabbits, goats, sheep, donkeys, and cows. Then we got to go into the animal enclosures to feed the small animals and pet the bigger animals.

Next, we went to outdoor cooking where we made fried rice. We chopped the vegetables, cracked and scrambled the eggs, cooked it over the fire, and enjoyed the delicious food we made. Later, a group of us went on the swing on the ropes course while another group played soccer. After dinner, we had a medurah (bonfire) where we made our own smores and sang “Rad HaYom” to end the day, just like we do every day at camp.

On Tuesday morning we had breakfast and went to a ruach-filled (spiritual) Tefillah (prayer service) with Ilanot (the Ramah New England edah of rising 5th graders). We then went to the agam (lake) where we had a great time playing on the water toys like the trampoline, slides, rocket, seesaw, and obstacle course. After drying off and packing our bags, we did some shira (singing) with Amichai Margolis. Our last stop was a hearty lunch before we boarded the buses and

headed back to Ramah Boston.

Experiencing the overnight camp together and connecting across edot (age groups) was such a joy. This “taste” of Ramah New England was truly sweet!
