A Summer of Connection and Tradition
Staff members wearing donated tefillin
Each summer at Camp Ramah, we create a vibrant Jewish community where tradition meets the joy of camp life. This summer, that connection to Jewish ritual deepened in a powerful way through the mitzvah of wearing tefillin.
Thanks to the generosity of donors—especially the warm and supportive community at Congregation Agudat Achim in Leominster, MA—we received several sets of tefillin over the past year. These meaningful donations have allowed more of our staff to participate in morning tefillot (services) with full kavana (intention), proudly wrapping tefillin as a sign of personal and communal connection to God and Jewish tradition.
For many of our staff, wearing tefillin is a practice that they’ve never done before or haven’t done in many years. Doing so now sends a strong message to our campers both about the power of ritual and about the importance of trying new things and being open to new experiences. At Ramah, we strive to create a space safe enough to step out of our comfort zones and try new things.
