Yom America
Yesterday at camp, we celebrated Yom America! As campers arrived at camp dressed in red, white, and blue, Rabbi Silverman and Ianne Sherry were hard at work building a bonfire. Rabbi Silverman shared how exciting it was to see if the fire would start with just one match. When the fire did catch, the campers’ quiet anticipation turned to cheers of jo
y.
Throughout the day, all of the edot got to spend some time at the bonfire with Ianne and Abby Mittleman, who both helped to maintain the fire throughout the day. Campers learned about how to build a bonfire, how to be safe around a bonfire, and how to say the word “bonfire” in Hebrew (מְדוּרָה). Of course, the campers also got to make and enjoy some delicious s’mores while they sang classic American songs, such as “This Land Is Your Land,” and chatted with their friends and counselors.
